Was checking out University updates , when I tripped on this , and so I had to share....
Officers of the Edo state police command have arrested a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry from the University of
Benin (UNIBEN),
on the grounds of forging the letter headed paper of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the signature of Dr. Anthony Monye-Emina, the chairman of the UNIBEN chapter of the association.
The officers of the state police had reportedly been
investigating the lecturer for over a month, until he was finally
apprehended on Saturday, 4 October.
The suspect had allegedly used the forged letter headed paper
to write a petition to the Minister of Education, stating that the
current Vice Chancellor of the school, Professor Oshodin was
no longer fit to oversee the running of the institution, citing
‘health issues’ as the reason.
In the petition, the lecturer wrote to the minister, that there an Acting Vice Chancellor needed to be urgently appointed in the
school for proper management of their affairs.
In the past, several cases of forgery and impropriety involving
lecturers of the University of Benin have been reported. In May
2013, the University sacked 13 senior members of staff, admission racketeering, changing of students’ grade and
collection of money from students for several services.
In August of the same year, a former Assistant Dean of the
Faculty of Law at the University of Benin, Isu-Ochiora Okogeri,
was arraigned before an Ekiadolor Magistrate Court for
allegedly collecting N100,000 from a female student to facilitate
her transfer to another faculty.
