University Updates: Other Nigerian Varsities Do Not Have Half Of What OAU Has in ICT - Prof. Aderounmu.

Some weeks aback, the Obafemi Awolowo University Students Union launched her first ever students interactive social app "The Great Ife App", and the guest speaker at the launching was the Director of the institution's Information Technology And Communication Unit INTECU Prof. Aderounmu.

"OTHER UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA DO NOT HAVE HALF OF WHAT OAU HAS IN ICT", This statement was a shocker for most of the people at the event. The Professor of computer science and engineering made this statement with some proofs.

Some of the proofs includes:

• OAU have over 50km of FIBRE OPTIC cabling covering the entire campus;

•Exponential growth in INTERNET BANDWIDTH- 100Mbps to 600Mbps 600% in 2years;

•A CAMPUS NETWORK, connecting over 4,500 devices;

•TELEPRESENCE facilities for communication and distance learning;

•E - TESTING and computer based learning facilities for e - learning;

•Host the WORLD BANK designated centre of excellence in software engineering (CoEx);

Designated AFRICAN centre of excellence on ICT driven knowledge park (ACE); and of all

•OAU remains in the 1st position in WEBOMETRIC ranking for 5 consecutive times, 7 times (2006 - 2015).

To some participants at the launching, the statement was doubtlessly accepted, while some reverted the statement, and called it false.

As you may know LFB is not just a fair journalist, but investigative if need be. We swung in to find out if truly what Prof. Said was correct.

On the 23rd of April, 2015 LFB got permission to visit the facilities, - The two telepresence facility, which worth N500m each, the cloud computing with over 500 seats multi - disciplinary computers, the ICT room which has over 1200 computers, and the CoEX Skye Bank Building Worth N180m.

LFB visited the facilities accompanied by some group of students known as the Record Breakers study group.
"Are my dreaming"? Adenike Adebowale, a record breaker asked a fellow student.

Emmanuel Adeshina, the leader of the study group, when asked about his experience is the facilities. "This is foreign, I felt I was in Oxford university. He said.

However, Prof. Aderounmu urges OAU students to face their academics rather than going  on unnecessary ALUTA. Many  of you don't know your worth, some students don't even know we have a thing like this here. He said.

Meanwhile, to some of you who doubted the statement made by Prof. Adeshola Aderounmu on the 17th April, 2015. The above are facts are true , and are functioning at 100% level.

If you sill doubt this read the congratulatory message addressed to OAU VC Prof. Bamitale Omole, at the 40th convocation of the university by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on December 12, 2014 , where the president said " I commend the OAU for having the best distance learning centre, cloud computing and telepresence facilities in the entire Nigerian university system as adjudged by the National Universities Commission"(vanguard).

In fact LFB learnt University of Lagos, and University of Ibadan could testify to the Professor's statement as both universities have each requested for one of the telepresence facilities be shifted to their campus on different occasions.
